What was the first book you’ve read?
*First LGBT-themed book I can remember reading would be Annie on My Mind by Nancy Garden. Still a very good read, though a little bit dated now. (I’m glad it feels dated; reminds me of how far we’ve come since 1982, though there’s still a long way to go.)
What is your favorite book?
*One of my favorite LGBT books is still Baby Be-Bop by Francesca Lia Block, just on the strength of the lyrical language and the timeless, fairy-tale feel of the story. (Favorite books of all time would be Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates, The Sandcastle by Iris Murdoch, and What Was She Thinking? by Zoe Heller.)
What’s your favorite sub-genre/category (paranormal, shifters, cops, suspense, dystopian, BDSM, etc)?
*I don’t really gravitate toward any particular subgenres—a great book is a great book, and if it sounds awesome or comes from a writer I trust, I’ll pick it up. I hadn’t really delved much into paranormal before this year, but I met some lovely writers on Twitter who challenged my preconceptions about it and broadened my horizons.
Which book would you love to see made into a movie?
*Jay Bell’s Something Like Summer would make a great movie. It has all the elements of a classic romantic tearjerker, and I think it would translate really well to film. Jay’s written companion books, too, so it could be a trilogy!
Which book do you wish you had written?
*Hard Love by Ellen Wittlinger. More recently, When You Were Pixels by Julio-Alexi Genao gave me the pixie flutters. He’s one to watch.
Who is your book boyfriend?
*Bertie Wooster. I shipped him so hard with Jeeves.
What book are you currently reading or reading next?
*I have Santino Hassell’s After Midnight and Sam Schooler’s Practical Guide to Trying Not to Die all cued up. David Leviathan’s Two Boys Kissing looks like a crazy quilt of awesome, too.
Something like Summer IS being made into a movie! Here is the FB link for it.
