…we're keeping our name but expanding our offerings!
What was the first book you’ve read?
*The first full-on gay romance I read was either Hard Fall by James Buchanan or Faith and Fidelity by Tere Michaels. Prior to that I read Luck in the Shadows and Stalking Darkness by Lynn Flewelling, and those count but only sort of as they’re more fantasy than romance. Let’s just say I parsed it heavily to get to the romance. I also read Ilario: The Lion’s Eye and The Stone Golem by Mary Gentle which fall under the same category, though Ilario is actually an intersex character.
What is your favorite book?
*Hard, hard call. The gay romance authors I read over and over are ZA Maxfield, particularly Drawn Together and the Stir series (Stirring Up Trouble/All Stirred up), Kim Dare’s With a Kiss and Duck, and the Bad in Baltimore series by KA Mitchell. I’ve reread Cage Match by Bonnie Dee many times as well, and Frat Boy and Toppy by Anne Tenino. I often go through a Josephine Myles kick too: I think it’s more that I crave a voice and then I go swim in it. Though I really, really love A Boy and His Dragon too. Almost forgot to mention that one.
What’s your favorite sub-genre/category (paranormal, shifters, cops, suspense, dystopian, BDSM, etc)?
*I actually prefer straight up contemporary best. I’ll read about anything, but I really don’t care for mystery-focused books, nor suspense. But I will read almost anything so long as it’s good. I’m much more interested in a strong (and pleasant) voice and a sure hand behind the helm.
Which book would you love to see made into a movie?
*Hmm. I think Drawn Together. It would cover a lot of ground. Plus I really want to see that kiss on the hotel room floor. On slo-mo.
Which book do you wish you had written?
*Oh lord, none of them! That way I don’t have to do the work, I just get to read.
Who is your book boyfriend?
*I think this means favorite character? Gah. I really don’t know. I guess Ran Yamane from Drawn Together. But mostly my heart belongs to Randy Jansen, and I don’t think you get to pick your own character as a book boyfriend.
What book are you currently reading or reading next?
*I just finished rereading Bad Idea so I could review it for the Suede. I have a set of Rainbow Awards books to read in the lesbian category…and then I don’t know what’s next. Though I’ve also at long last begun reading Fingersmith by Sarah Waters, and I’m vibrating to get back to it. As for gay romance on deck…I guess one could say the position is open.
