…we're keeping our name but expanding our offerings!
Victor Bayne, the psychic half a PsyCop team, is a gay medium who’s more concerned with flying under the radar than in making waves.
He hooks up with handsome Jacob Marks, a non-psychic (or “Stiff”) from an adjacent precinct at his ex-partner’s retirement party and it seems like his dubious luck has taken a turn for the better. But then a serial killer with a gruesome M.O. surfaces–and no one agrees what he looks like.
Solving murders is a snap when you can ask the victims whodunit, but this killer’s not leaving any spirits behind.
If a book could tick off every checkbox of what I find entertaining in a read, “Among the Living” does just that.

I love, love, LOVE VICTOR BAYNE!!!! (and I honestly have no idea why) He hears dead people talking, and is sloppy, and is unsure of himself, and is traumatized, and drugs himself up to shut out the voices…he’s a hot mess. But there’s something just COOL about him (<-I realize I sound like uber-dork…but he IS…SO COOL!)
In Vic’s shadow, Jacob Marks is a bit on the bland side. BUT, I think there’s some potential there. And his crush on Victor is adorable (predictably, I’m the sucker that awwww’d at his response to Victor’s jealousy of the incubus). I like this pairing better than Adrien/Jake, better than Tony/Mac, better than Jory/Sam…better than any of the other wimpy-weird-dude/hot-alpha-cop couple out there…and that’s saying a lot for me.
Just the concept of the PsyCop is FUN…and the different “gifts” that each of them has (“si/no”…I want this!) is clever. Ok, so the whole white ball of light thing kind of threw me…but even Victor makes fun of it a bit when he’s doing it…so I can live with that.
Strong characters, original storyline, amazing writing…and so much more to inhale! As Jay-Z would say…”on to the next one…”
