QUESTION OF THE WEEK: #13 – Quotables

Boys in our Books Friday Question of the Week!

Each week we’ll ask a question about your reading experience. Our review team will give our answers and we encourage you to join in and comment with your answers as well!  Let’s talk about BOOKS! :)

QUESTION:

What’s your favorite line/quote from a book?

Ami:

The Dark Tide by Josh Lanyon

Love you? Of course I love you. Baby, I fucking worship you.”

Ilhem:

Deadly Wrong by Victor J.Banis. Tom and Stanley are having an argument about bottoming, then Stanley says :

“When your lover fucks you, you love it whether you hate it or not.”

I love it because it makes me laugh, because it’s so very Stanley – sassy and puzzling Tom – and because it’s so very down-to-earth and silly at the same time.

Jenni:

Mind Fuck by Manna Francis

“One more question, if you have the time.”
“Of course.” Letting the door swing closed, Toreth strolled back across the office and leaned against Warrick’s desk.
“Do you deep throat?”

O.M.F.G.

Sara:

I have so many but the one I use over and over again is “Shut up” from any and all of the Cut & Run books.

Shelley:

Muscling Through by JL Merrow when big Al meets little Larry in a dark alley. That scene is brilliant, the dialogue is spontaneous, sincere and the misinterpretation of Al’s words is hilarious!

“You live near here?”…
“No! Er, yes-please don’t hurt me!”

“Your mates shouldn’t have let you go home on your own. …”You’re such a little thing.”
“Oh God.”

I’ve read this scene so many times and it makes me laugh out loud every single time :D

Sheri:

I have sooo many favorites, but they all tend to spoil just a teeny bit.
However, this line makes me melt….

Cut & Run by Abigail Roux

“Are you feeling this, too?”

Sue:

Shattered Glass by Dani Alexander – This little gem

“I’m not gay.” That wasn’t what I meant to say.
“Congratulations. Would you like a medal?” Bunny Slippers asked.
“I already have a medal. For bravery, not for being gay. I think you made me gay.”
“I made you gay?” He set down the napkin he was holding. “Is that better or worse than the person who made you stupid?” <3 <3 <3

Susan:

Special Forces by Aleksandr Voinov:

“When you’re like this, Vadim, I want to own you, and taste you, burrow all the way into your body until I feel so much it fucking hurts and your scent clings to every pore. I want to hurt you, tear you apart, fuck you until you plead and scream and bleed, and all that, because I can never get enough of you.”  – Dan

Frog by Mary Calmes:

“I would worship him so he’d know that he was everything.”- Cyrus

In the Company of Shadows by Santino Hassell:

“He loved him enough to want to die for hurting him, loved him enough to kill himself slowly for fear of losing him, loved him enough to suffer silently if he thought it was in Boyd’s interest. Sin loved Boyd enough to make difficult decisions easily, as if there were no contest; he went toward Boyd as if he hadn’t even considered any other choices.”

Glitterland: Aftermath by Alexis Hall:

“Love me, love the onesie” – Darian

Tracy:

Zero at the Bone by Jane Seville

Jack stood there paralyzed. “Say it again,” he whispered.
D cupped his cheek and lifted his head to meet his eyes. “I’ll find you,” he said, low and implacable.

(That scene sent shivers down me–I didn’t know WHAT would happen next, but felt D’s resolve that no matter what, he would find Jack.)

HOW ABOUT YOU?

What lines get you every single time?

One of my favorite love declarations ever:

“Love you? Of course I love you. Baby, I fucking worship you.”
    ~Dark Tide, Josh Lanyon

I love Amy’s and Tracy’s choices. The love declaration of the Dark Tide is one of my favourites as well, as for one from Zero at the Bone… Well, I loved all the book, so…

This one is from M. Chandler’s High Fidelity. I really like it because it perfectly summarizes the relationship and the personality of Simon and Jeremy.

“So… what do you want from me, anyway, Archer?”

Jeremy’s smile was small and crooked, but it looked real enough for all that. Lifting his hand he made a lazy gesture, which took in all the island, and the Caribbean beyond, and the million and one stars in the sky above; “What do I want from you?” he repeated, plainly amused, like he always was. “I’m afraid my answer is the same that it’s always been: everything that you’re willing to give me, and then everything more that I can take.”

Dani Alexander (Shattered Glass),””Tell me something good about your life,”” I whispered, needing to hear that he wasn’t as broken as I thought him to be.””You.”” It was so quiet I almost didn’t hear it.”

The line above from The Dark Tide. The most romantic and satisfying moment in just about any book ever.

Mine’s from Evenfall. I think this quote not only stole the moment when Ryan was talking with Boyd, but it also encompassed my feelings of the entire book. This has stayed with me for so long and I think of it often.

“Wow. I’m impressed. Seriously.” Ryan stared at him in amazement. “Wow.” A brief moment passed and he shook his head slowly. “Someday I’ll be able to think of something more clever than that to say but at the moment I’m freaking’ floored. I mean– so are you two… I don’t know. Wow.”

Susana!! I am so glad you picked that quote from Shadow of the Templar series. Jeremy is my baby and those two stab my heart. They aren’t as on the surface angsty as say Jake & Adrien or Hsin or Boyd, but I love them just the same. GREAT quote.

Am I allowed a quote from a 1970s het category romance? If so, Frustration by Charlotte Lamb. Heroine is ranting at hero and it goes something like this

    “…you hate me!”

“Hate you? Are you blind. Natalie, I love you!”

Simple but great. It’s all in the pacing, of course. By the time you get to this, you’re so keyed up. Quoting favourite lines out of context sorta robs them of their true power.

Love the Jake and Adrien quote. Again, there’s a long work up to that moment, and that’s what makes it such a huge pay off when it finally comes.

Actually, on reflection, these two quotes have a lot in common, the alpha male, so astonished to learn that the object of his love doesn’t already know he/she is loved.

YES! I love the PAYOFF! If there wasn’t a book 5 in that Adrien English series, I would’ve hated the whole thing! ha!

“Whether it was the Rifter, or John, or Jath’ibaye, it no longer mattered. They were all one. At the center of both of Kahlil’s lives was his dedication to that single man who was his deity, ward, friend, and lover.”

    – His Sacred Bones, Ginn Hale

And because I’m a fanfiction fanatic:

“His damnation was proof of love. And his redemption from Hell was love, a love that will gather the broken fragments of his soul together and bring him home again as it did before; and as Dean realizes this and remembers, the scalding flames of Hell blur into the warm, peaceful glow that radiated from the angel who gripped him tight and raised him from Perdition.”

Edmond Manning : “Your first ducknapping is never easy.”
or “Oh good lord, I’m in a three-way with a cello.”
or maybe “I wonder sometimes why we don’t have more words to express forgiveness. The words we use are so trite, so limited. How do you describe that first melting of a friend’s face after a vicious fight, the moment when you suddenly know that eventually, you will survive this.”

“Don’t tell you my heart beats for you? Don’t tell you my soul sings for you? Don’t tell you that you’re hope to me, life to me, the center of my fucking universe?”
It’s a quote from Gray out of “Brute” by Kim Fielding. It’s not my favourite book of all times but one of the best declarations of love I’ve ever read.
