Hello everyone! Thank you for following along the tour and a thank you to Boys in Our Books for hosting me! I’m here to celebrate the upcoming release of Hell & High Water, the first book in my new contemporary-law enforcement-shifter series called the THIRDS. Today I’m going to share a bit about the THIRDS worldbuilding.
On our first stop, I talked a little about how Therians (the shifters in the THIRDS world) came about–through a series of ‘what-if’ questions. The main question being: What if this new species wasn’t hidden from the world, but a part of it? That’s where my worldbuilding began. How would Humans react to this new stronger, faster, more resilient race? How does Humanity react to anything it dones’t understand?
After the world finds a cure for the Melanoe Virus, inadvertently waking up the dormant Therian mutation in the process, it has a whole new set of problems. Our series takes place in modern day New York City, roughly forty years after the birth of this new species, and in that time there have been riots, fear, prejudice, and hate. Something has to be done. With a new species must come new laws. Humanity can’t have Therians shifting out in the streets whenever they please. And how would Humans know who’s a Therian?
With new laws, new branches of government are formed. But who will enforce these new laws? How could Human police officers hope to bring to justice Therian criminals who could kill them with one bite? Humans demanded safety. Therians demanded equality. The answer: the Therian-Human Intelligence Recon Defense Squadron. Find out more about the THIRDS organization on our next stop.

Action. Comedy. Romance. And that one weird guy.
When homicide detective Dexter J. Daley’s testimony helps send his partner away for murder, the consequences—and the media frenzy—aren’t far behind. He soon finds himself sans boyfriend, sans friends, and, after an unpleasant encounter in a parking garage after the trial, he’s lucky he doesn’t find himself sans teeth. Dex fears he’ll get transferred from the Human Police Force’s Sixth Precinct, or worse, get dismissed. Instead, his adoptive father—a sergeant at the Therian-Human Intelligence Recon Defense Squadron otherwise known as the THIRDS—pulls a few strings, and Dex gets recruited as a Defense Agent.
Dex is determined to get his life back on track and eager to get started in his new job. But his first meeting with Team Leader Sloane Brodie, who also happens to be his new jaguar Therian partner, turns disastrous. When the team is called to investigate the murders of three HumaniTherian activists, it soon becomes clear to Dex that getting his partner and the rest of the tightknit team to accept him will be a lot harder than catching the killer—and every bit as dangerous.

I enjoy the whole range of heros including the anti hero. The story that supports the hero is what really decides it for me; a well-crafted story that captures me is what I look forward to. This new series has me intrigued and looking forward to its release.
