…we're keeping our name but expanding our offerings!
Bryan Monroe has always catalogued his life in terms of moments—right moments, wrong moments, perfect moments. But when his best friend and partner on the police force, Chrys Delos, is shot in a raid gone bad, it’s one of the worst moments of Bryan’s life.
Bryan’s been secretly in love with Chrys for years, and the shooting is a wake-up call that it might be time to tell Chrys the truth. The problem is, Bryan’s never been with a man before, so in addition to worrying about Chrys’ injuries, he’s an indecisive wreck over the future.
But with the help of two unlikely matchmakers, Bryan knows it’s time to find the courage, and the perfect moment, to tell Chrys exactly how he feels…
What I really like about K-Lee Klein’s books is that she writes such heart-tugging characters. You WANT to read about them. You want to get to know them, follow their journeys, and see them to their HEA.
This can be said for Never a Perfect Moment. Bryan and Chrys are partners in law enforcement and the story starts with Chrys being shot at the scene of a crime. What unfolds from there is a story of two best friends who find that they’ve loved each other all along. There’s some bi-for-you action and a host of side characters that contribute to the story. Between Chrys’ dad, Bryan’s ex wife, and his 4-yr old son, everyone wants these two to get together! But really, the strength of the story really lies within the bond between Bryan and Chrys…both in banter, in honesty, in fear, in love. They were a sweet couple and I enjoyed watching their relationship figure itself out.
But, much like I found in Unbreak My Heart, the author has a way of taking a specific theme…and bashing you over the head with it over and over. The repetition is…at times…maddening. In this short story alone, the one titled “Never a PERFECT MOMENT”, the words ‘perfect moment’ were used close to 20 times…Bryan always waiting for that…yup…perfect moment…to tell Chrys about his feelings. Too much of the book was based on this one hook and it wasn’t strong enough to play throughout. I was screaming “Just tell the guy already, sheesh!”
I think this could have been helped with a stronger editing hand and ultimately ended up a cleaner read. As it stands, it was enjoyable and touching. It’s just that the repetition took me out of the story quite often and by the end, though I was happy, my closing thought was…”it’s about time!”
