Coconut Cove-The road trip to inspiration!
Earlier this year, I had the pleasure of taking a little road trip with the amazingly fun M.J. O’Shea. I flew out to Seattle to hang out with her for a couple days and then we road tripped it down to Portland, Oregon. It was a three hour drive, and for anyone who’s ever been around me even a little bit, you know I have zero issues filling time with talking!
Lucky for me, MJ and I always have the weirdest and most awesome conversations, and this road trip led to the creation of our new series Coconut Cove, now available at Wilde City Press!
Imagine, if you will, two gabby authors in a VW convertible. It was a sunny day, so we had the top down. Alas, it wasn’t all that warm, but we didn’t let that stand in our way! As our teeth began to slightly chatter, we threw out a few ideas of warm beaches we could be going instead. Waikiki, Santorini, anywhere warm really.
Then we mentioned Key West! Neither of us had ever visited the Keys, but that didn’t stop us from dreaming a little about warm sandy beaches, super fun music, and lots of tanned skin! *eyebrow wiggle* Unfortunately, our chattering teeth stopped us from dreaming too much. As luck would have it, we passed an outlet mall and stopped to warm up with some handbag shopping. You know, as you do. :)
For the next, much warmer, leg of our journey, we admired our handbag purchases and talk somehow seemed to turn to High School. I confessed that I’d been addicted to the original 90210 back in the day. (Please don’t do the math and realize how long ago I was in high school. kthx.)
MJ liked those teen drama shows too (Gossip GIrl and the OC were her chosen addictions.) As us writerly types seem to do, we got to talking about how fun it would be to be a writer on one of those shows. The plot twists, the teen angst, the drama! The fantastic wardrobes! I’m not the only one who fashioned myself after what Kelly was wearing on 90210, right? Please lie and tell me you did that too…
Three hours later, we arrived at the wrong hotel (Never let me be your navigator. Seriously.) but Coconut Cove was born. Our very own teen drama television series, set at the beautiful and WARM Key West. We wanted to focus on the actors behind the characters (especially that funny little bit of trivia that most teen drama actors are so much older than their characters… Did you know that Luke Perry was 25 when 90210 started? The actress who played Andrea was 29…)
The Coconut Cove cast has all your favorites. We’ve got the Queen Bee, the Sweetheart, the Bad Boy, the Jock, and even the pesky little brother! The actors who play these parts have equally exciting lives behind the scenes!
You can even take a quiz to find out which Coconut Cove character you are! And if you post the results on Facebook or Twitter (and tag us!) you’ll be entered to win a grand prize of some of our favorite beach themed products!
Welcome to Coconut Cove where you’ll always find oiled beach bodies, palm trees, tropical drinks, and plenty of drama!
Coconut Cove is the hottest new sensation to sweep the nation — a gay teen drama filled to the brim with hot stars and even hotter action. It’s catching the public’s attention and winning their hearts. But all the drama, heartache, and life lessons aren’t just for the characters on the screen. The fledgling actors behind the scenes have more than their fair share of love and catastrophes. They may only play teens on TV but when it comes to romance, these twenty-somethings still have lessons to learn.
From the scheming ex determined to cash in on a rising star, to the hunky high school crush resurrected from ancient history—from the nice guy with a naughty past, to the snarky diva with attitude—there’s plenty of scandalous hidden affairs and seriously sexy demons hiding in just about everyone’s closet on Coconut Cove.
You just have to be ready to drink it in. Bottoms up … or should we say off?
A sassy southern lady, Poppy Dennison developed an obsession with things that go bump in the night in her early years after a barn door flew off its hinges and nearly squashed her. Convinced it was a ghost trying to get her attention, she started looking for other strange and mysterious happenings around her. Not satisfied with what she found, Poppy has traveled to Greece, Malaysia and England to find inspiration for the burly bears and silver foxes that melt her butter. Her love of paranormal continues to flourish nearly thirty years later, and she writes steamy love stories about the very things that used to keep her up all night. If her childhood ghost is lucky, maybe one day she’ll give him his own happily ever after.
