…we're keeping our name but expanding our offerings!
1. Starting from scratch: Tell us all about you. What do you want us to know?
I guess the biggest thing about me, is that I’m a dreamer, diehard romantic, and adventurer—and I love smiles and summer. :-) I love doing what I do—anything creative, but writing and art are my two biggest joys. Being able to merge the two is my dream job, but then, I don’t really consider them “jobs”, so it rocks all around.
Something new going on that I’d love to share—more on the art side of things—is an artist’s collective called Art Equals, where member artists donate a portion of selected art sales to various GLBTQ charities. I’m excited about this project and look forward to it growing.
2. 10 Questions about books:
How did you get interested in gay romance?
I never really knew there were gay romance stories out there until I went on a quest after reading the Blay and Qhuin storyline in JR Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series. Their story was just so profound and heartbreaking to me. No one should ever have to fight their heart or hide whom they love—everyone deserves to love out loud.
Best book you’ve read in the last 3 months?
Splinters, by Thorny Sterling. Wonderfully refreshing, unique, and so romantic.
Best book you’ve written in the last 3 years?
The most recent. :-)
What book would you recommend to someone who’s never read your work?
I think Long Tall Drink is a pretty good representation of my style—or any one of the Pickup Men books.
What book would you recommend to someone who’s never read gay romance?
Hmm… One book? Marie Sexton’s Strawberries for Dessert.
Your favorite character you’ve written?
Isn’t that like picking your favorite child? LOL Tough question because I love all of my characters for various reasons. If I have to choose just one though… I don’t know! I was going to say Bridge Sullivan from Let It Ride because he’s just a lot of fun, but characters like Scott from Pulling Leather, Tripp from Pickup Men, Ray and Travis from Long Tall Drink stand out because they have so much personal baggage to fight through to find their happy.
Your favorite character someone else has written?
Well… he isn’t gay, but my all-time favorite character is Stuart Redmond from Stephen King’s The Stand. I think it says a lot that a character I haven’t read for probably 20 years now, still stands out in my mind. For gay characters, I have to go with D from Zero to the Bone. Complex and compelling.
What plot bunny has been sitting in your head that you haven’t committed to writing?
I have a folder full of them! The most daunting is a story about soul mates that is going to need hardcore plotting to make work—which is why I haven’t committed yet, I guess. That one is going to be a huge challenge, but if I can pull it off I think readers will really enjoy it.
What’s on the horizon/in the pipeline?
Lots! No dates on anything yet, but I have a paranormal-ish story in the works right now that has been a lot of fun to write so far. I say “ish” because it’s more magical—and that’s all I’m saying. *g* Then I have a holiday story set in a blizzard, sparked by a true event. And…there’s going to be a book four in the Pickup Men series that will probably release late spring. :-D Down the line there’s also a very big, very epic paranormal series I’ll be co-writing with a good friend.
What’s the BEST thing about being an author?
Getting emails from readers! It’s just a wonderful feeling knowing something you wrote moved someone in a positive or profound way.
3. Would You Rather…
…Write a book that sells a ton or a book that generates a ton of discussion?
Any reason a best seller can’t generate a ton of discussion?
…Have a book with 100 4-star ratings or a book with 50 2-star and 50 5-star ratings?
50/50, because to me that means, good or bad, it made people feel strongly.
…Write fluff or angst?
Angst with a touch fluff for a breather.
…Have a book made into an indie-movie that told the exact story or into a long-running tv show that was only inspired by the story?
An indie-movie telling that exact story that turns into a huge blockbuster, which then gets made into a long-running TV series inspired by the original story/movie. :-D
…Have written Twilight or 50 Shades of Gray?
Those are my only choices? gah ;-) Well, I guess I’ll have to go with Twilight.
4. Two Truths and a Lie…
Tell us 3 things about you…2 of them are true, 1 is false.
1 – Was in a movie starring Rob Lowe
2 – Swam with dolphins in Hawaii
3 – Sang lead in an all-girl metal band
