"Boys in Our Books"…

…we're keeping our name but expanding our offerings!

REVIEW: “Beneath the Stain Pt 2” by Amy Lane

Trav Ford doesn’t like strings and he doesn’t like messes. Coming off a messy breakup, Trav is grimly determined to keep his life absolutely pristine. When Trav is asked to take over the management of Outbreak Monkey, his first order of business is to clean up their act—and that includes shipping the youngest, most troubled member off to detox and rehab before Mackey Sanders’s life choices kill him.

But Mackey didn’t become an addict overnight, and it’s going to take more than one trip to rehab to fix him up. When an act of violence destroys Mackey’s struggling equilibrium, Trav is going to find that messy isn’t so hard to escape—not when it’s wrapping its mess around Trav’s heart.

**Chomp, chomp, chomp….bounce, bounce, bounce….stares at calendar, willing it to fast forward**

Yeah, I’m going crazy. I need more. More I say!

I was hoping this would happen.  I mean, I’m suffering right now, but it’s a good pain. I’m excited. I’m anxious. I’m dying to know what happens next.

The tone has changed, the desperation is thick, and the angst is hotter than ever.

Mackey is a straight up mess. But he’s a beautiful mess. The last episode left him scattered, pieces fluttering to the wind. He is still desperately lost, but now he’s teetering on a dangerous line, and one wrong slip and its game over. Without spoiling part one I can only tip-toe around why Mackey’s fragile world shattered just as it was taking off. The key is… he’s still not over the pain. A raw, festering wound thrives within Mackey and thanks to his manager he’s found a way to numb the pain. Perhaps he is attempting to anesthetize his entire existence. Whatever his intentions, he’s succeeding.

When Mackey breathes he is music. If only he didn’t have to remind himself to breath. A harmonious cycle of drugs keep him alive. When his manager becomes a casualty of this cycle Mackey spins out of control. Mackey needs someone to ground him, someone to answer to, someone to keep in him line and Travis is just the man to do it. Travis is older, wiser and rough around the edges. Trav doesn’t take shit from anyone, but that doesn’t exclude or protect him from the shitstorm his life has become. Licking his own wounds, he has yet to recover from a fresh break up. He is certainly not looking for anyone to fill the void, but the more he discovers about the damaged young rock star the more intrigued he becomes.

Enthrallment is not something you can hide from, and he is definitely captivated.

Hell, we all are. Travis, the fans, and myself….simply can’t get enough Mackey.

Shortchanged from the start, life hasn’t been kind to him. His dream come true has turned into a nightmare, and this nightmare could be his demise.

We shall see if Travis embraces the role of the shinning white knight.

Can he save Mackey in time?

I for one, cannot wait to find out!

pssst, I’ve changed my mind about the rest of the band….I can’t wait to see them in the spotlight too!
