REVIEW: “Beneath the Stain Pt 4” by Amy Lane

Mackey’s fragile recovery from his bout with self-destruction is complicated even further by his feelings for Trav—and Trav’s feelings back. Trav is older, and he should know better, but now that Mackey is drug-free and conquering his demons, all he can see is the stunning, brilliant man who existed under the stain of pain and excess.

Trav and Mackey struggle to find a balance between Mackey’s recovery and their growing attraction. Trav decides to make a rare leap of faith—but can Mackey find enough faith in himself to make it through life in the spotlight and a visit to the past that almost destroyed him

Mackey is healing. Every day is a success, a celebration of sobriety. Mackey’s new drug of choice is Trav. He is at the mercy of love but is desperate to get it right this time. Mackey is confronting his demons and this round he is fighting back and defeating the temptations that brought him down this jagged road to begin with. To overcome he must face the music and come out publicly. Between his drug addiction and his newly open sexuality, he is nervous about the aftermath.

Trav is insistent that they stay cool and maintain the ‘just friends’ title with a hope for more when Mackey is better.

He wants what is best for Mackey.

He thinks he may not be what’s best.

Mackey is counting on the fact that he’s wrong this time.

Mamma Sanders steps into the spotlight this time. Ooo! I love this woman. She is fierce with her love and unconditional with her forgiveness. She is McKay’s number one fan.

Mackey and Blake come home…yes, they have a home now. Not just a house or a pad or a hotel to destroy. They have a home and a family.

Everyone has taken to the new family rules exceptionally well. They work out, they eat well, they breathe their music…it’s nearly perfect. It becomes a band overhaul.

They have to pick up where they left off, they have a tour coming up and a CD to release. No rest for the wicked.

Speaking of wicked, Mackey is pushing Trav with everything he’s got. He wants him, he wants to be wanted, the sexual tension is electric.

Trav may be strong, but his defenses are crumbling.

They decide to..date. One of my favorite scenes so far is their first date. So very Mackey and Trav.

Course it wouldn’t be traditional if a nasty bit of angst wasn’t thrown in.

I would like to say that things can only go up from here, but I don’t think I can utter the words. Don’t want to jinx it. I’m hoping he’s bottomed out and now he’s moving up, preparing to soar. I’m hoping with everything I’ve got.

Bullshit? No more.

Sticky tension? You got it.

Sweet emotions? Hell yeah!

Mackey deserves a smooth ride for awhile. This bottle of lightning can no longer be contained. The universe fecking owes him a break.

Outbreak Monkey has split my heart in two and looks like when the pieces go back together, it’s going to stay.

I’m hooked. I’m addicted. I’m in for the long haul. Consider me a groupie, I just ordered my t-shirt. :P
