"Boys in Our Books"…

…we're keeping our name but expanding our offerings!

REVIEW: “Forging the Future” by Mary Calmes

ABOUT:

Jin Church is back where he started, alone, wandering, and uncertain of his path. It’s not by choice but by circumstance, as he remembers he’s a werepanther… but not much else. He knows one thing for sure—he needs to find the beautiful blond man who haunts his dreams.

Logan Church is trapped in a living hell. His mate is missing, his tribe is falling apart, and he’s estranged from the son he loves with all his heart. His world is unraveling without his mate by his side, and he has no one to blame but himself.

If Jin can regain his memory and Logan can overcome the threats to his leadership, then perhaps they can resume their lives. The question is: Is that what they want? Back to the same house, the same tribe, the same troubles? They can choose from various roads leading to their future… or they can forge their own path.

REVIEW:

Have you read this series? If not, you should. Well, if you like shifter books you should read it. If shifter books are not your thing, maybe give it a try? I’ve attempted to get into shifter books for a while, but I’m not very good at finding them. I’m also not really actively looking for them either.

Enter Mary Calmes… I love her books. Any time I need something to get me out of a funk, if I’m not reading something really smutty, I’m reading Mary. I love all the sweet and sappy stories that always have happy endings. So one day, I picked up the first book in this series, Change of Heart, at first not realizing that it was a shifter. Over the next three days, I finished all four books in the series. Could not put them down. I was sad to see them end, and really did think that was the end of the series. I’m so glad I was wrong! This series is not just about shifters, it’s about people living in this culture so different from our own. They have their own society, laws, issues, beliefs. It’s complex, vast, and very well thought out. There are layers to the characters, to the tribes, the families. All of which create a rich atmosphere for a reader to immerse themselves into and not want to come out for days.

Visiting with Jin and Logan Church again was fantastic. This takes place a few years after book 4, and we find our panthers in a terrible situation. I was thrust into the middle of events that had already happened, and through exceptional storytelling, was able to piece together what the catalyst was. The story flows nicely, not leaving a reader with tons of questions for too long. Right out of the gates, things are happening and there is no down time. The feels I had were all over the place. I laughed and cried. I was mad and really pissed off. I was scared and excited. And in true Mary Calmes fashion, I was totally energized and filled with love for our heroes. This book also sets up Jin and Logan for what could possibly be more books. Gah! I hope so. I’d love more from these two because the title says it all. Jin and Logan set themselves on a path for a very different future. One with so much potential.

So, I don’t want to give a lot away. I just want to say that if you’re a fan of this series, this is a must read for you. If you’re not picked it up yet, please give it a shot. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. I loved it…It’s fun reading, and that’s something we all want, right?
