"Boys in Our Books"…

…we're keeping our name but expanding our offerings!

About Us

We LOVE to read! And we LOVE talking about books! But what started out as a group of reviewers who had M/M romance books in common, has grown and spread and expanded to discussions about ALL books, and movies, and shows, and music, and news…

So now we’re a bunch of readers first, but who love to talk about anything that’s interesting. And we hope the variety will bring you back to join the conversation!

BLOG TEAM

Gaby:

Favorite Category:  Fantasy, Paranormal Romance, Dystopia, New Adult, Young Adult and sometimes Historical Romance.
Least Favorite Category:  Ah, god. I don’t know. I guess BDSM is a category that I normally avoid, though I’ve read a couple of great books of this genre. Same goes for Cowboys, I rarely read them.
Favorite books/series:  In The Company Of Shadows, Memorizing You, The Vampire Cronicles by Ann Rice , Mnevermind, Harry Potter, all books by Gabriel García Márquez
Likes/Dislikes: Likes:  hurt/comfort stories. I have a weird need for angsty books, and as long as is not an unecessary angst-fest, the chances of me liking the book are high. I’m a romantic so, give me sweet! I love strong women in my books, and broken men. I enjoy a slow development some good UST in my books. As far as tropes go, I love Friends to Lovers and Enemies to Lovers. Dislikes: This is difficult because there are things like rape, physical and emotional abuse, incest, infidelity, big age gap between MCs in romance, and other stuff that I may like or dislike depending on how it affected the story and if they were necessary for plot and character development or not.

Ilhem:

Favorite Category:  Dystopian, Fantasy, Mysteries, Contemporary, Historical
Least Favorite Category:  YA, sci-fi
Favorite books/series:  The Administration, Dark Soul series, Infected series,  Adrien English, Soldiers, Skybound, Fade, Shattered Glass, Filth, Purgatory : A novel of the civil war
Likes/Dislikes:  LIKE: evocative writing, strong stories, being surprised and swept off my feet. DISLIKE: sap, melodrama, emotional manipulation and authors explaining me feelings.

Kristie:

Favorite Category:  I don’t really have a favorite, but I love dark and twisted, BDSM, sappy and sweet, hurt and comfort, funny and spastic.
Least Favorite Category:  Fanfic, Historical
Favorite books/series:  Too hard to choose, right? I have too many to choose from. Today, my favorite author is Jack L Pyke. Book is Breakdown. Series is Don’t… Tomorrow, it might be someone else, some other series, some other book. That’s one of the beautiful things about reading… finding your new favorite in all those words.
Likes/Dislikes:  Likes:  My husband, sushi, tacos, sexual tension, great kisses, true romance, comic books, and bloody horror stories that scare the crap out of me. Dislikes: Real life drama over things I can’t control, closed minded people, and mushrooms, brussel sprouts, and bugs/worms/things that are in the dirt and are fascinating yet really icky.

Sheri:

Favorite Category:  Cops, Cowboys and Military, Contemporary, and Mystery & Suspense. I also enjoy PNR and don’t mind girly bits on occasion.
Least Favorite Category:  Historical, and ummmm Historical.
Favorite books/series:  Cut & Run (always!), The Men of Halfway House, Beneath the Stain, PsyCops/Channeling Morpheus, Infected, The Administration, Sixty-five hours, and The Rifter.
Likes/Dislikes:  Men in uniforms make my knees weak (cops, fire, military…I’m not picky), I love couples who compliment and balance each other, and I seriously admire authors that have twisting ability to turn my initial irritation into adoration. Fluff? yes please. Heartbreaker? I need advanced planning to clear my schedule for ample sobbing time.  Cheating? I’d rather not thanks.  Incest? running fast & furiously away!

Sue:

Favorite Category:  Contemporary, Military, Suspense
Least Favorite Category:  Paranormal, Fantasy, YA
Favorite books/series:  In the Company of Shadows, Special Forces, Shattered Glass, Skybound, When You Were Pixels, Chance Assassin,  Muscling Through, The Administration.
Likes/Dislikes:  I adore the enemies-to-lovers trope (thank you Special Forces: Soldiers).  Love-will-conquer-all rocks my world.  Gimme soldiers and assassins any-day.  I’m drawn to characters I can sink my teeth into; the more complex, disturbed and intense the better. Generally speaking, rich, privileged, classically handsome MCs don’t do it for me in the least but I’d love to find one who changes my mind!

Susan:

Favorite Category:  Contemporary, I love cops/FBI/fireman and cowboys, I could read the “classic” YA nerd meets closeted jock over and over again, and I have a newfound love for Historicals!
Least Favorite Category:  Paranormal, BDSM, oh and no tentacles. :)
Favorite books/series:  In the Company of Shadows, PsyCop, Gives Light Series, and what I call the M/M Historical Series Trifecta: Case of Magpies, Whyborne & Griffin, and Enlightenment. Also, a handful of Kristen Ashley books that will stay with me FOREVER! :)
Likes/Dislikes:  Must have a HEA, I’m a sucker for sweet, love a good alpha male, interesting/complex characters, slow-paced & lovely charm me, deep-deep-deep-I’d-do-anything-for-you love.  NO cheating, could do w/o menages, any sex w/ animals involved is not my thang.

Tracy:

Favorite Category:  Mystery, suspense, historical, fantasy, sci-fi, urban fantasy, paranormal, YA, adventure, steampunk, holiday stories, LGBTQ
Least Favorite Category:  I’m not a fan of most “straight-up” contemporary romances. I normally need something else, like a mystery or an alpaca shifter or a spaceship in there to bounce things along, but there are some I enjoy and love.
Favorite books/series:  Psycop, Adrien English, Zero at the Bone, Lord of the White Hell, Irregulars, Downtime, Life Lessons, Muscling Through, The Magpie Lord, Dance in the Dark, Like Coffee and Doughnuts, Blood Howl, The Chimera Affair
Likes/Dislikes:  I’m not a fan of dark-dark grim stories, non-con and torture. I prefer endings that are happy or hopeful.

Aw, this was an incredibly nice post. Taking the time and actual effort to generate a superb article… but what can I say… I put things off
a lot and never manage to get nearly anything done.

Seeing what each of you likes reading is helpful. It allows an author to decide if this blog team is the right one to review his/her book.
